Book Reviews

I promise, none of these are from my mother, although she really enjoyed the book too!  And yes Mom, I’m working hard on the sequel!!!

“Christian hits it out of the ballpark with this hysterical, quirky, and endearing story … Phone Kitten is laugh out loud funny from page one. I was immediately captured by Emily and her innocence, and had to laugh at most of the phone sex scenes.” -ChickLitPlus

“When I first heard of this book I was intrigued; a phone-sex worker turned sleuth? Sounds like the perfect mix … Marika is an excellent writer and I simply loved Emily … A fabulous book.” -Trashionista

“Marika Christian’s debut novel was one of the most fun reads I have had this year. Sweet Emily taking a job as a “phone actress” has to be one of the funniest things ever. And after chatting with Marika and knowing these phone calls were real, amused me all the more.” -Just Jump

“If you’re like me, you might be thinking…phone sex operator? Really? But I was quickly proven wrong. Everything surrounding the job is written in a tasteful yet hilarious way. I give Christian credit for being able to write an amazing character with such a taboo job.” -Books Etc.

“Let me start off by saying that this is unlike anything else I’ve ever read. This book kept me on my toes, and was down-right hilarious.” -The Reading Nook

“Phone Kitten is your ticket to hours of giggles-so long as you’re not looking for raunch. Because this is so not it. Somehow, first-time author Christian manages to handle a potentially smokin’ subject with such sly wit, authentic detail, and clever writing that you’ll wonder why this subject was ever considered taboo” -Books Devoured

“If you like Janet Evanovich, Jennifer Crusie, or Elizabeth Peters, Marika Christian is your new best friend!”

“The humorous but feisty Emily leads the plot with her self effacing persona and ability to overcome every block with her persistence and strength of character. A great story and a full stable of loveable characters. I can hardly wait for the follow on stories of our detective and phone sex idol, Emily!”

“If you are interesting in a mystery that’s laugh out loud funny, then Phone Kitten is for you. Emily is a charming heroine that will have you rooting for her from page one. There are plenty of surprises, lots of laughs and any “questionable” material is handled in a unique enjoyable manner, you’ll be wanting more. I’m looking forward to more adventures with Emily”.

“The first thing that stands out about this book is the author’s voice. Christian pens Emily in such a funny and realistic way that you can’t help BUT like her. She’s about as likeable a character as I’ve read in a long time. She’s got real problems. She’s not a super genius (but she’s plenty smart) and she’s not runway thin either. She is, in essence, the ‘every-girl’. Even though I’m a guy, I could relate to her. She’s got job problems, problems with the opposite sex, issues with her appearance. It’s tough not to put yourself in her shoes and say to yourself ‘yes, that makes complete sense. I can empathize’. In short, Emily is REAL and completely human and FUN to read.

The dialogue is fast and snappy and many times, laugh out loud funny. Emily’s inner musings are both hysterical and touching as she reflects on her life, her friends, her problems and her love life.”

”I can’t believe that she has no other books available yet! I hope that is fixed soon. I very much agree that the story is “laugh out loud funny!” I did often and got many strange looks from people around me that I had forgotten were there. I would shrug and continue reading. The story progressed in a way that I had not foreseen and was, therefore, delightfully surprising.”
